Jessica Williams and her boyfriend Jared moved into a new apartment a couple of months ago . The best thing about the move was that now they were going to live in a place where they were allowed to have pets , and they couldn’t find the time to integrate a new member into the family. Jessica immediately began browsing the websites of a few shelters. At that time she could not imagine that they would end up finding such a special dog.
Benji had a severe flea allergy problem that caused much of his skin to lose its fur.
Plans were to adopt a puppy in November to celebrate Jessica’s birthday , but when they saw photos of a puppy at a shelter they decided there was no time to waste . The puppy was named Benji, and in her pictures of him he looked extremely sad and lonely.
Benji had lived on the streets of Los Angeles for a while, until he was rescued and taken to a public shelter.
However, little Benji’s life in the shelter was not easy and it took him a lot of work to adapt . He was very afraid of anyone, so he wouldn’t let anyone get close to him. At the shelter he wasn’t his favorite dog at all, but in the pictures of him he looked so sad that Jessica and Jared weren’t about to let him go.
“He was in the shelter for 10 days and he wasn’t doing well at all. She would bark and growl at anyone who walked past her.”
They drove 6 hours determined to adopt Benji, but when they got to the shelter they were told that he was not a very friendly dog . They even recommended that they take a look at the other dogs so that they could find another candidate who was more friendly .
Listening to the insistence of the people at the shelter, Jessica realized that if they didn’t do something, little Benji was going to be euthanized soon ; so they decided to give it a try against all the recommendations. After all, the puppy’s sad expression still indicated that he needed a lot of love .
“I have never seen such a sad dog. We knew we couldn’t leave it there .”
Now Benji lives with his new owners in Sacramento, and after 3 weeks, his character has changed from that of a grumpy grump to a friendly playful puppy. During the first days he behaved somewhat surly and withdrawn, but with the days he began to show his adorable personality.
“He loves to jump on us to give us kisses. When we get in the car she starts barking excitedly to ask us to start”.
