Magnolia is a sweet little dog who was found wandering the streets of Fredericksburg, Texas. Luckily, a very kind person rescued her and took her to the Hill Country SPCA , a shelter where they quickly found her a family.

Aubrey Morgan, the woman who adopted her, quickly realized that Maggie, as she had called her, would soon be a mother . She didn’t know much about giving birth to dogs and she didn’t feel very ready about it. But she tried in every way to be prepared when there would be a need for her beloved dog of hers.

“I watched dozens of YouTube videos about childbirth and collected hundreds of dollars in childbirth and emergency supplies to keep on hand,” Aubrey says.

Studying how to deal with such an eventuality, she realized the importance of keeping the puppies warm immediately after birth. What she never imagined was that Maggie’s delivery time would coincide with the worst snowfall in Texas history. A fact that inevitably made everything much more difficult.

Within minutes of Maggie going into labor, the power in the house went out. Disaster announced, a real drama for everyone at that point. The house quickly froze, the woman and her family seriously feared for their lives and for the puppies that were about to be born.

With the whelping still going on in the now cold house, Aubrey’s entire family did their best to keep the born pups as warm as possible, but nothing seemed to work well or effectively. Outside temperatures reached 13 degrees below zero.

Her husband came up with an idea that would have changed the fate of that situation, especially for the dog. It would have been useful to get in the car, start the car engine and start the heating. It is in these conditions that Maggie gave birth to two more puppies

“We were there for about 12 hours,” says Aubrey. The woman had promised Maggie to support her, take care of her and her puppies. Everyone fought to cuddle and protect the puppies from the cold, but only entering the car allowed them to stay warmer and safer.

At that point it had become necessary to move elsewhere. “So we traveled with our family of four, our three dogs, mom and her seven puppies for 45 minutes to my parents’ house and stayed there until Friday,” says Aubrey. Maggie finally gave birth to 7 beautiful puppies surrounded by love and care, as best could not be hoped for.

The puppies were given the names of Daisy, Poppy, Ash, Rosie, Dahlia, Clover and Aster. “Maggie is extremely affectionate, not only with her puppies, but also with my 2 year old and 9 month old sons. It was amazing to see her become a mom,” Audrey said.
